Marty McFly, the lovable protagonist, harbors dreams of rock and roll fame that could whisk him away from the suburban monotony of Hill Valley. When Marty gets behind the wheel of Doc Brown's time-traveling DeLorean, he soon learns that the greatest adventure of his life will be determined not by where he goes, but when.
Eccentric and brilliant scientist Emmett "Doc" Brown has devoted his entire life and family fortune to unraveling the secrets of time travel. After Doc develops the flux capacitor and unleashes a wave of temporal chaos stretching from 1885 to 2015, he realizes that some scientific breakthroughs may be best left undiscovered.
Throughout Marty's encounters with his mother Lorraine in different times and timelines, he discovers a woman who is much more complicated, strong, and wild than he ever could have imagined. Marty's sweet-natured and bookish father, George, is as much of a weak-willed pushover in the past as he is in the present. However, when Biff threatens the woman George loves at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance in 1955, George taps into a previously unknown well of strength that will forever change the future of the McFly family.
No matter how much the timeline changes, one constant remains: Biff Tannen is always Hill Valley's biggest bully. When the slow-witted and quick-tempered Biff discovers the secret of time travel in 2015, he becomes far more powerful and dangerous than Doc and Marty could have ever imagined.
After being saved from a carriage accident by Doc Brown in 1885, schoolteacher Clara Clayton finds herself smitten by the brilliant blacksmith. Once Doc finally tells her the unbelievable story of his past, Clara must decide if being with the man she loves is worth giving up everything she has ever known.
